Gene
Marks is a best selling author. He's also a writer
for BusinessWeek.
He should therefore be trusted, right? Well, not necessarily.
Not to be rude, but small business owners should not
take marketing advice from a CPA. That just seems
silly to me. And it seems equally silly that Gene
Marks, a best selling
author of books on business accounting and a promoter
of CRM solutions, would write an article I found on
BusinessWeek
this week. The article is full of bad advice, inaccurate
statements, lousy leaps of logic, and just plain silly
and nutty examples of people who made bad decisions.
I tried to see where he was coming from and it finally
dawned on me. Continue

It was the Cluetrain Manifesto that first
got the ball rolling on markets as conversations
with this one pronouncement: Markets Are Conversations.
Now, markets are conversations between more than
just consumers and producers. Because as a small
business owner who is moving online to conduct business,
you'll be involved in a conversation. Keep in mind
that your blog will cost you time. Read
more on the value of your conversations.

Aaron
Wall is predicting a decline in content quality.
It will likely also increase the value of real quality
content. If you rely on ghostwriters to produce
your content then the price you pay may rise. Will
outbound linking die? If you really want quality
content you'll have to hire quality writers. Read
more about content development.

Need some help with your integrated marketing campaign?
You could end up paying through the nose if you aren´t
careful! Many marketing firms will charge you for
everything from the lightbulbs they had to install
while working on your campaign, to the coffee girl
who sits around doing very little most of the day.
