Dear Caroline,

Today's message is a quick tip that I was reminded of recently while trading e-mails with one of our clients - your "spam" folder is a helpful tool for keeping your in-box clean. Sometimes it keeps it a bit too clean.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

As always,

Happy Marketing!

Caroline

1. Avoid the Spam Folder Trap!

"I still don't have it," he insisted.

Even though I'd sent the e-mail 3 times, my client still had not received it.

I sent test messages to myself to make sure that my e-mail was working properly - even sent test e-mails to other people to make sure everything was working.

It seemed that everyone else could receive my e-mails - just not my client.

Finally, I remembered that, from time to time, messages that I actually WANT to receive turn up in my "Spam Folder" that my ISP put in place to protect me from junk mail.

I checked with my client, and sure enough - all 3 copies of my e-mail were stuck in his Spam Folder.

This was a good lesson learned for me and a tip I'd like to pass along. Whenever I start communicating with a new company I add them to my e-mail address book, and I ask them to do the same with my e-mail address. This is referred to as "whitelisting" your contacts, and it should prevent your Spam filter from blocking messages that you really do want to receive, while continuing to filter out all those offers for money from Nigeria, etc.

Of course, this little whitelisting tip applies to any e-mails that you want to make sure you receive... like Blue Chip Tips!
